For shopping options, Portland has it all except the sales tax, since Oregon has no such sales levy. From late spring to early autumn, the Portland Farmers Market beckons with fresh produce in the Cultural District’s South Park. Nob Hill ranks among the city’s hippest shopping districts with assorted boutiques, sidewalk cafes, and microbreweries. Shoppers also are drawn to the Pearl District, with its galleries, and to Northeast Broadway, with shops, restaurants, and personal services. Across the Willamette River from downtown, Lloyd Center -– Oregon’s largest mall linked to downtown by the MAX train -- features 200 stores including Nordstrom and Meier & Frank, wrapped around an indoor ice rink, with a food court and an 18-screen theater. Hawthorne, also across the Willamette River from downtown hosts funky shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. Antique shops, book stores and cafes add shopping intrigue to Multnomah Village.
